GRAVEL TRAVELER SL "Open Platform"
GRAVEL TRAVELER SL "Open Platform"
I’ve been working on some stock designs over the past few years. What I came up with was what I call “Open Platform". In the simplest terms, “Open Platform” mean that I I build the bikes to the specs I have worked out over the years. They have the geometry and materials that I have found are best suited for the typical use of the bikes that receive this designation. Additionally, and the part I think I am most excited about is that they are semi blank canvases for YOU! If you want the bike super simple, they are basically ready for paint. You want fender mounts? No problem I’ll add before final QC. Want that extra set of bottle bosses for those extra long days? we can do that. Want cable stops instead of full housings? Done. Want a custom steel fork instead of the offered carbon options? No prob, though that will likely add a few weeks to the lead time. More importantly, I’ve done the leg work to dial in the bike to perform to their best ability for you, but I have left some of the ideas open for you to choose so that you can have that personal flare that makes your bike part of you. These bikes are the first foray into the Open Platform idea. Hopefully if they go well and I see people are into it, I can keep em coming.
For the particulars on this run, these are the “go fast” SL (substantially lighter) option versus the “go long” non SL version. What makes it the SL option you ask? Well, the tubing is Columbus Spirit HSS and Life. So the tubing is super strong and as light as possible without compromising said strength. These tubes are THIN (did I already mention they are way strong also?). I even nerded out and weighed the head tubes, bb shells and dropouts I usually use to find the lightest ones that are still top notch quality. Performance wise, I tuned the geometry (geo charts below) for just about anything from your lunch hot lap to something like STB GRVL. The frames are ready for your personalized options and paint. Turn time for the in stock bikes is about 4-6 weeks for paint.
